He is a Professor of Chemistry and earned his PhD from the University of Manchester, Institute of Science and Technology specializing in the areas of Corrosion Protection, Adhesion of Paints and Polymeric Barrier Coatings. His areas of research are in metallic alloys, corrosion protection by paints and inhibitors including the study of polymeric barrier coating degradation under atmospheric conditions as well as ionic barrier properties of polymeric coatings. He has published more than 60 publications which include article in ISI and Scopus indexed journal, several chapters in books and reviewed journals for international publications, mainly focusing on the corrosion protection by novel inorganic Schiff based compounds as inhibitors, under film corrosion, adhesion modifiers, electro-polymers and electronic and ionic conductivity of polymers and polymer electrolytes and barrier protection degradation dependency on ionic resistance of polymeric coatings. He has also been involved in the publication documents for the Higher Education Ministry, which include the National Blueprint for Graduate Employability, High End Industries Graduate Internship and the National Higher Education Blueprint.

Besides teaching and research, he is involved in training and consultancies mainly within the paint industries, government research agencies, and module fabricators for off shore platforms. He has been the key note and invited speakers to several national and international conferences such as the International Materials Technology Conference and Exhibition, Malaysia (2010), International Conference on Traditional & Renewable Energy, & Nanomaterial Technology, Beijing, China (2011), International Conference on Functional Materials & Devices (2011) and The Science & Technology and Industry Linkage Round Table Forum, Academy of Sciences Malaysia (2011) and the International Higher Education Conference 2013 organized by MYEULINK and Ministry of Education. He has also conducted Master-classes under the Institute of Materials Malaysia (2012) and (2014) aimed at training the industrial personnel in the areas of corrosion protection. Apart from that he has contributed towards setting new quality standards in the coating industries by providing the academic research acquired knowledge in the finger-printing of coatings for industrial applications.

Nationally, he has been appointed by the Ministry of Higher Education to lead the committees for the construction of the High End Industries Graduate Internship (2011) and the National Blueprint for the Graduate Employability (2012) and lead the research committee for the review of the National Higher Education Strategic Plan (2014). He was also the Head of Cluster in the National Council of Professors (2012 -2016).
