Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia and AKEPT (Higher Education Leadership Academy) are pleased to announce the Call for Papers and invite academicians and researchers to submit abstracts for presentations at the 2nd World Islamic Countries University Leaders Summit 2016 (2nd WICULS 2016) with the theme Baitul Hikmah – The House of Wisdom: A model for the University of the Future, on the 16-17 November 2016.

Full paper submissions are also invited for the Pre-Summit International Conference on Qalb (Virtues) - Guided Leadership in Higher Education Institutions, 14 – 15 November 2016.

The Summit and the Pre-Summit International Conference welcome papers on disciplines and perspectives related to Leadership in Higher Education and Qalb-Guided Values, respectively, which will contribute to discussions to cater for an audience comprising of university leaders, academics, administrators and policy makers involved in the development of Higher Education.

The Main Summit will be a highly selective, single track meeting that includes oral and poster presentations as well as invited talks. Only 5 oral paper presentations will be selected for each session.

The Pre-Summit International Conference on Qalb (Virtues) - Guided Leadership in Higher Education Institutions will have concurrent session for oral presentation. Final papers for the Pre-Summit International Conference are due in advance of the conference and subject to Author consent, the selected papers will be published in the 'Ulum Islamiyyah Journal (

Paper/Abstract Guidelines 

  1. The submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously, nor is it before under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  2. The author (s) should ensure that the submitted article is entirely original works, and if the authors (s) have used the work and/or words of others, which this has been appropriately cited or quoted.
  3. The author (s) is responsible to ensure that the article sent for review is plagiarism-free.
  4. The submission file of the article should be provided in Microsoft Word format (.doc).
  5. The paper should be written using Times New Roman, font 12, 1.5 spacing and between 10 -15 pages (including Reference at the last page of the article).
  6. The references and citations should follow the referencing style used by the American Psychological Association (APA).

  1. References should be arranged first alphabetically and then further sorted chronologically if necessary.
  2. The submission of article should follow the journal templates provided by the organizer.

The 2016 conference, 2nd World Islamic Countries University Leaders Summit 2016 (WICULS 2016), will build on the concept of the “House of Wisdom” or Baytul Hikmah as the model of the University of the Future. In order to ensure continuity, the themes of the summit, equity, wisdom and ethics, will remain the same although the approach will revolve around the Baytul Hikmah model. The aims are served as a platform for university leaders to connect and deliberate on their roles and responsibilities to bring about a sustainable change in the way universities are managed to remain relevant.

Abstract Guidelines

  1. The submission of an abstracts implies that the work described has not been published previously, nor is it before under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  2. Your abstract page should already include the page header. On the first line of the abstract page, centre the word “Abstract” (no bold, formatting, italics, underlining, or quotation marks).
  3. Your abstract should contain at least your research topic, research questions, participants, methods, results, data analysis, and conclusions.
  4. Your abstract should be a single paragraph double-spaced. Your abstract should be between 150 and 250 words.
  5. Your abstract should include keywords. Listing your keywords will help researchers find your work in databases.
  6. The abstracts should be written using Times New Roman, font 12, 1.5 spacing.

As a guide, papers must be between 4,000 and 4,500 words in length and must be contained within 20 pages including tables and references. All papers must include an Abstract and conform to the following generic format: introduction, literature review, methodology, findings/discussion, conclusion / implications and references.

Please use the checklist provided below to ensure that your paper meets the requirements prior to publication. Interested applicants must send the paper in Ms Word Format and not as a PDF file.

  1. Papers must be written in A4 paper size.
  2. Title of the paper is no more than 15 words, centred and in 16pt font.
  3. Author(s) name(s) appear below paper title in 14pt font and centred.
  4. Leave two empty lines before and after the name(s) of the author(s).
  5. All text Arial fonts.
  6. Section/sub-titles is in numbered sequentially.
  7. Leave one empty line before and after each section/sub-title.
  8. Line spacing throughout paper is single-spaced (no double spacing please).
  9. Abstract is in italics, 10pt Arial font and justified
  10. Keyword is indicated after Abstract.
  11. All text is in 12pt. Main headings in bold and 14pt Arial font and all sub-headings in bold and 12pt Arial font.
  12. Author(s) affiliation, address and email is provided at the bottom of the Authors name
  13. Figures, tables and charts are included within the body of the paper
  14. All text is justified
  15. Single empty line between two paragraphs.
  16. End notes are included before reference section – if applicable. (Please do not use footnotes).
  17. Paper has been checked for grammar and spelling.
  18. References provided at the end in alphabetical order.


References should be completed and in APA style. They should contain full bibliographical details. References should be shown within the text by giving the author’s last name followed by a comma and year of publication all in round brackets, e.g. (Mahazan, 2013). Reference should be at the end of the paper but before the Appendix (if applicable) and it should be in an alphabetical order.
